Content Management Systems (CMS)

Do you need a complete CMS solution or a CMS Lite solution and whats the difference?

Complete CMS Solution

A compete CMS like Joomla, is a complete website content management system. It allows full control over the content including menus, sections, categories, and images. The advantage of a Complete CMS site, is that you can modify the content yourself with practice and guidance. Upload new images and create new menu items, add or exchange images in your articles. All without needing to have a web designer make these changes for you. Joomla has thousands of free and commercial plug-ins to extend your website.

The disadvantage is that there is a lot of server overhead, and if the site is small , it might be overkill if you do not need to update your pages very often. The learning curve is also higher.

CMS Lite Solution

A CMS Lite solution is a smaller content management system for updating the content of your pages. No extra bells and whistles, but you can change out text content as necessary to maintain your site. It has a text editor built in that works similar to a word processing program. The advantage of a CMS Lite solution is that it can added it to a pre-existing website, or added to your new website as it is created. It has a lower learning curve so you can dig right in and use it right away.

The disadvantage is no image editing or uploading capabilities. You can use a free image editing program and a free FTP program to edit and upload images, but as the name implies, it is a lite solution to maintaining your website.

So, what is the solution for you?
